Following a competitive tender process, Tate & Morgan were appointed as the main contractor for the construction of a new church annexe building in Chelmsford, together with associated alterations to the existing building and external works. The Church of Our Saviour is a local church situated in Chelmer Village and Chancellor Park in Chelmsford within a residential area of Essex. The works, therefore, had a significant impact on the local residents.
The building project also included all the mechanical and electrical services to be completed along with the design and construction of steelworks. The curved profile of the building and roofline incorporating both slate and zinc finishes really enhanced the look set against the original building. The internal fit-out included a new kitchen and toilets incorporating DDA compliant toilets. Aluminium windows and doors were fitted, which complimented the interior finishes with lots of natural daylight throughout.
Tate & Morgan always take into consideration clients, residents and neighbours on a building project and are always committed to quality and peace of mind to all involved. We worked closely with the client to devise a delivery schedule that met the needs of the programme of works without disturbing the local residents and Pre School. Tate & Morgan kept the work areas segregated from members of the church, Pre School staff, children and the general public via the use of security hoarding. Following liaison with on-site staff, deliveries were also arranged during quieter periods to reduce the risks as much as possible, as with all projects we take careful consideration to ensure the highest safety requirements are met, including when we moved the steelworks into position by crane, which had to be taken over the top of the main church.
The renovation works were undertaken with a fully operational pre-school on-site who Tate & Morgan carefully coordinated with. Whilst working on the construction, we engaged with the pre-school to carry out one of our learning days, which we’re very proud to carry out within local schools & youth environments. The pre-school children got to carry out our build a planter workshop and got to build their own planter. We supplied all the children with related PPE including safety helmets which they all thoroughly enjoyed wearing. We provided the school with items to continue the learning process so the children could enjoy planting and growing a variety of fruit, vegetables and plants for many years thereafter.
The renovation of the project allowed the client to achieve their key objectives in providing more space for their Church and the local community.
